DAY OF THE DRAGON
More than 40 teams from the Boston area and across the United States put paddles to water starting at 9 a.m. for the 33d annual Boston Dragon Boat Festival in and along the Charles River near the Weeks Footbridge. Starting at noon, the festivities include a dragon dance (because it’s the year of the dragon) and other performances, plus arts and crafts and food vendors. No admission fee. bostondragonboat.org

The Boston Harbor Hotel’s free summer entertainment series kicks off Thursday with Jeff Pitchell performing on the floating Blues Barge behind the hotel and an outdoor screening of The Way We Were on Friday.
