On the Tuesday after the Marathon bombings I was walking past a policeman dressed all in black with a machine gun held across his chest, keeping guard at the corner of Franklin and Devonshire streets. Ahead of me was an elderly couple who stopped, turned to the officer, and asked, “Where’s Macy’s?” Unflappable Boston.
