WHEN SHE’S HAPPIEST When I’m swimming or at the beach

HER HOBBIES Yoga, running, and skiing

DEVIN I went shopping the weekend before the date to buy a new dress shirt.

HANNAH I downed a beer and a Diet Coke, then debated what to wear. I felt a little nervous but went in with a calm and open mind.

DEVIN I arrived five minutes early.

HANNAH I was five minutes late on purpose. I didn’t want to be the first one.

DEVIN She was fairly cute.

HANNAH [He was] very Italian looking.

DEVIN She seemed a little nervous but insisted she was more stressed about work.

HANNAH He was definitely a little nervous. I saw his hand and glass shake a couple of times.

DEVIN We talked about college, work, food, and sports.

HANNAH It was a very comfortable conversation.

DEVIN The waiter had to come back three or four times before we were focused enough to [order].

HANNAH I discovered he loved EDM, electronic dance music. I’m not personally into it.

DEVIN I learned that she enjoys going to Red Sox games.

HANNAH I ordered spaghetti and red sauce. It was delicious. [But] the waiter was my favorite part. He was fabulous on all levels.

DEVIN [The food] was out of this world.

HANNAH I guess we didn’t have too much in common exactly, but that didn’t hinder the date at all.

DEVIN We didn’t have any awkward or dull moments.

HANNAH I thought he was pretty attractive from the get-go.

DEVIN I’m into sporty girls, and I didn’t really get that vibe.

HANNAH I made some embarrassing sports comment that may have been a deal breaker.

DEVIN I had a gut feeling from the beginning but tried to keep an open mind.

HANNAH I think the night needed to end. And it ended on good terms.

DEVIN We discussed hockey, so I suggested going to a bar to watch the Bruins game.

HANNAH It was his idea to continue, but I think he really wanted to watch the game.

DEVIN We walked back [toward] my car.

HANNAH We exchanged numbers and said our goodbyes.

DEVIN It was a great experience.

HANNAH I would go on another date, but I’m not sure if he is someone I could form a relationship with.

DEVIN I don’t think we’ll go out on another date. Perhaps we’ll become friends.  — Compiled by Katy Rushlau
