Amber Shomo of FOREVERCANDID PHOTOGRAPHY (978-766-6266, forevercandid.com) often takes pictures outside city wedding and reception venues — THE PROVIDENCE BILTMORE. That requires some spontaneity. "Take advantage of any time you have," Shomo says. "It was raining for 30 minutes before, but as soon as the rain stopped, we said, 'Time to go.' "

At the STATE ROOM in Boston, Shomo says, "the view is fantastic all day long. There's the skyline, and no matter where guests are seated, you can get great pictures."

Of the city's hotels, "THE OMNI PARKER HOUSE is one of my favorites because it has a lot of character." At any hotel, Shomo says, ask the wedding coordinator to recommend corners like this one for pre-ceremony photographs. "They know the best spots — and they are usually hidden."

Andrew Fatato, owner of Boston-based FLASK & FUNNEL custom cocktails and bartending service (617-855-9023, flaskandfunnel.com), thinks this sophisticated drink is just right for a wedding in town.

French Revival

1 1/2 ounces gin

1/2 ounce Lillet Blanc

1/2 ounce grapefruit oil syrup (see recipe)

1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice

2 dashes citrus bitters

Shake all ingredients with ice, strain, and serve.

Grapefruit Oil Syrup

Place the peel of one grapefruit into a pot and add 2 cups of water. Cover pot, bring to a boil, remove from heat, and cool until steaming stops. Strain out peel and add 2 cups of sugar.

Stir until sugar dissolves. Syrup will keep, refrigerated, for 3 to 4 weeks. Makes enough for 40 drinks.

Choose from a variety of skirt styles and more than a dozen colors, then twist and tuck these TWOBIRDS convertible-tie dresses any way you like (from $270 at Bella Bridesmaid, Boston, 617-424-7231, bellabridesmaid.com).

A sleek dress that feels as luxurious as it looks — silk charmeuse is awfully nice — reflects your sophisticated taste, while a fishtail train shows your sweet side.
