    > MEDITATION

JESS I had class all day, so I didn’t really do anything specific to prepare for the date.

TOMMY I practiced some yoga after work so I could get my Zen on before our date.

JESS I just figured it would be a fun new thing to do.

TOMMY I felt confident and comfortable when I showed up at the restaurant, and didn’t feel nervous. I took a seat in the lounge area and waited for her. I wanted to greet her when she came in and be seated together.

JESS He was early; I was five minutes late. I’m usually very punctual, but there was an accident along the way.

TOMMY She was sweet and apologized for running a little behind.

    > DEEP BREATHS

JESS He seemed pretty at ease. Very Type B, but easy to talk to.

TOMMY [She was] cool as a cucumber. Jess is very attractive and has a great sense of style.

JESS Tommy is not the typical guy that I’m attracted to — we are just a bit opposite in styles, although he was well dressed.

TOMMY We talked about why we both ended up signing up for the date, [and] we found out that neither of us had been on a blind date before.

JESS I think we both realized pretty quickly that we’re complete opposites. I love my career, he’s [most into] teaching yoga; I love to travel, he has anxiety flying; I’ve never lived anywhere longer than four years, he’s never moved outside of the Boston area.

TOMMY Jess and I have a lot of fundamental differences — she’s more Type A, and I’m more of a Type B — but I found them to be things that we could talk about and share instead of it being an incompatibility.

JESS We may be opposites, but I felt as though he’s a genuine guy.

TOMMY Jess is really easy to talk to and always made an effort to keep the conversation going without having it feel awkward or forced, so that made things fun.

JESS For me, it is really important for my partner to be as driven and adventurous as I am. Our values were just different.

    > A STRETCH?

TOMMY Jess and I talked about not kissing on first dates, so there was no pressure in that manner, which was a relief.

JESS I had about 100 pages to read for my business law class the next morning.

TOMMY We called it a night after we had our meal. We walked out together and she gave me her phone number.

JESS I gave him a hug goodbye.

    > SECOND DATE?

TOMMY We have each other’s numbers, so it’s a possibility!

JESS Probably not, since we seem to want different things out of life.
