It’s hard to believe that Make Way for Ducklings, a book that children today find as fresh and exciting as their parents and even grandparents did, was published in 1941. September 15 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of its author, Robert McCloskey (1914-2003), who grew up in Ohio but attended art school in Boston and later spent summers in Maine with his family. He once said he rewrote the book that made his reputation “lots and lots of times.” Children everywhere are grateful for the effort.
