> A MOVE-ON
SANA [Before the date, I] got home late from work, had a glass of wine and a wardrobe malfunction, and ran around hyperventilating.
PETE I posted a picture of what I was wearing on Facebook to ask my friends what they thought.

SANA I love meeting new people, [and] the restaurant we were going to is one of my favorites, so it was a win-win.
PETE I was really early because I had to drive and find free parking, which I did. She was five minutes late; no biggy.
SANA I blame my Uber driver.
PETE She came in alone. I figured it was her; I got up to say hi.
SANA He had a very “street” look to him. With a name like Pete, I was expecting someone more bookish.
> HITTING THEIR STRIDE
SANA He was really good at playing it cool.
PETE She [said] she was very nervous. I honestly couldn’t tell.
SANA I learned he had to trek all the way from Peabody to Boston, had to find a parking spot, and had to be up at 7 the next day. I can empathize with that.
PETE [She asked] basic questions: my child, where I’m from, what I do for fun, etc. I’m a deep person, so I brought in politics, religion, family. I discovered she needs to research the stuff we talked about.

SANA He has acted in some movies, has a 6-year-old daughter, likes burritos, and has sustained quite a few tragedies. We talked about gang violence, tattoos, and great campsites.
PETE I felt like she’s kind of naive, in a nice way. She seems sheltered; I told her she needs to get out more. She said I was negative.
SANA There was no chemistry.
PETE She wasn’t a fan of one of my tattoos. It’s a Tupac quote, “Fear is stronger than love.” She laughed; I said it was true.
SANA There has to be more in common; burritos just aren’t enough.
> RESTLESS
SANA After we thanked the waitress, I suggested calling it a night.
PETE I had to leave, but not because of her. I feel like she wanted to stay longer, but I couldn’t. If I didn’t have work, I probably would have stayed. Why not?
SANA We hugged. I told him I enjoyed talking to him and to get home safe. We then walked in opposite directions, both a little relieved.
PETE She hugged me and said it was nice to meet you. I said, “You, too.”
> SECOND DATE?
PETE If she wanted to take me out, I’d go. Friends are always a possibility.
SANA Thank you, but no.
