A Restaurant’s Take

Pumpkin risotto at Amrheins in South Boston

The savory entree has a touch of sweetness.

Amrheins has been serving quality fare in South Boston for more than a century. Boasting the oldest hand-carved bar in America, with the city’s first draft beer pump on display, this historical spot has kept its menu classic but seasonal. The pumpkin risotto, served in a hollowed-out sugar pumpkin, is touched with sweetness, studded with chicken, cashews, dried cranberries, spinach, and caramelized onions, and topped with melted cheese — the restaurant’s signature dish for fall.
