SAM I was feeling lethargic after work so I put on some Waka to hype me up.

TATIANA I listened to some upbeat Beyonce. I got to the restaurant and went to the bathroom. By the time I was finished, Sam had arrived.

SAM Tatiana was very pretty. She had cool hair and was wearing a jean jacket.

TATIANA I definitely thought he was cute and he had a nice smile.

SAM The restaurant was also an art gallery (it was painfully hip), so we talked about how wacky all the art was. They had an art menu, in case we wanted to drop $4,000 on a painting. We had lamb dumplings (very tasty), duck confit (very, very tasty), and young greens (which we agreed could be a good stage name for a rapper).

TATIANA We also both ordered a drink called the Optimist, which I thought was appropriate.

> SOUNDTRACK

SAM We had very similar taste in music. We agreed that Kendrick Lamar is indisputably the king, but then I made the claim that Kanye West is the greatest hip-hop artist of all time (a claim I stand behind), and she winced because she’s more of a Tribe fan. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Tribe is amazing, but Kanye is next level.

TATIANA We both love film and talked about Michael Fassbender and Steve McQueen. I thought I might really like this person when Sam was talking about this documentary he saw at Coolidge.

SAM She asked what my favorite movie was, so of course I said There Will Be Blood and launched into Daniel Day-Lewis’s monologue, which probably isn’t the best idea for a first date, but it’s a great monologue, so whatever.

TATIANA We had similar tastes in humor. He was incredibly politically and socially aware, which I really liked. He also talked about the kids he works with in the community, which was cool, since I volunteer with youth outside of my job.

> CLOSING CREDITS

SAM We got into a nice groove pretty quickly. Nothing “happened,” but I’d say there was chemistry. We seemed to click.

TATIANA I thought I could hang out with this guy for hours. He definitely was charming. I sprung the idea of going to a bar close by and he seemed into it.

SAM We went to Whiskey’s. We hung out for the rest of the night and cracked jokes about the music videos.

TATIANA It ended naturally. We exchanged numbers.

SAM We decided we should catch a movie together. She wanted to see the Oscar-nominated shorts playing in Kendall Square Cinema.

TATIANA He gave me a good night hug. I had a really great time.

> SECOND DATE?

SAM Yeah. We planned to catch a movie sometime.

TATIANA Definitely, I hope to take him up on that offer.

> POST MORTEM

SAM Solid A.
