Gonzalo I was nervous. I don’t go on a lot of blind dates that you need to write about later.
Jen I ran home from work, changed my shirt, chugged a glass of wine, and went on my merry way. When I went in, he wasn’t there yet, so I ran to the bathroom. He was at the table when I got back.

Gonzalo I thought she was really attractive and stylish. It kind of got me by surprise how stunning she was.
Jen He had dark features and seemed happy! I was excited to get to know him.
> A TOURING STORY
Gonzalo We talked about how I moved to the States (crazy story). I discovered that she has a super awesome career path and job [and] wants to go to grad school.
Jen He grew up in Venezuela and has been in the US for almost two years. He definitely has his head on straight. He mentioned he had the opportunity to go on tour with his boy band in college, which he declined because he thought it was ridiculous. It was the greatest thing I’d ever heard.
Gonzalo She told me about her lack of cooking skills, that she had a short acting career (Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz middle school play).
Jen He had some recommendations, which I trusted because he has worked in tons of restaurants.
Gonzalo We ordered baked mushrooms with cheese as the antipasti. She had rigatoni with rabbit sausage and I had spaghetti with crab and bacon. The food was unbelievable, the vibe was cozy and romantic.

Jen He was easy to talk to and attentive. He is very artistic — enjoys writing, playing music, making movies, etc. I’m on the other end of the spectrum. We do both like to read!

Gonzalo She made me laugh a lot (usually that doesn’t happen).
Jen Gonzalo seems like a great person and has an incredible story. However, we are at such different stages and don’t have many common interests. He’s very successful while I have an entry-level position and am focused on paying off student loans.
Gonzalo I walked her to the T station, so we had the opportunity to talk a bit more.
Jen The conversation continued seamlessly.
Gonzalo I asked if she wanted to go out again. She said yes and gave me her number. Maybe a fake number, who knows?
Jen We hugged. I don’t think either of us were feeling a kiss.

Gonzalo I would love to, but in my US dating experience, nothing is a safe bet.
Jen I’d be down to hang out with him again, but I wouldn’t call it a date.
