Letters to the editor of the Boston Globe Magazine

Readers weigh in on football and concussions, a date that went well, and Dave Barry’s take on 2018.

As somebody who has grown up with the game [of football] and has just written a book on it [Present at the Creation, with Ron Borges], I applaud the selection of Dr. Ann McKee (“2017 Bostonian of the Year,” December 17). I see the game declining for many reasons, but the real one is the brain and the violence. The players are too big and the daily collisions are too violent.

    Former Patriots general manager

Very happy to see Dr. Ann McKee on the cover of the Globe Magazine as Bostonian of the Year for her important work on head injuries in football. Very sorry to see the New England Patriots named an Honorable Mention. Mixed message for your readers!

At last, a shidach (match) (“Dinner with Cupid,” December 17). I have yet to see a couple so in tune with each other. Being a romantic, I wish them well. Keep us posted.

Thank you for giving me a good laugh during this frigid weather (“Dave Barry’s Year in Review,” December 31)! Although it makes me extremely sad that the Trump presidency has actually been as crazy as Dave Barry writes.

I love this guy so much, and look forward to this annual look at our nation’s political foibles. I only wish there were 18 months in the year.

For the first time ever, I just could not finish reading this. Dave was funny; reliving 2017, even through a humorist’s eyes, was not!
