ON YOUR MARK
Hope I spent most of the day studying in the library. My roommate and I made up a life story we thought might fit Kevin (even though I knew nothing about him).
Kevin I drank one beer, however it wore off, so I was back to being nervous.
Hope The host walked me to my table. I liked Kevin’s glasses — he later told me that he had done a poll among his friends to decide whether to wear them or not. It was a good choice!
Kevin She was beautiful! She was tall and had a good fashion sense. I was under pressure to show her a good time.
Hope We talked about the funnier Cupids we had read. We wondered why we might have gotten matched.
Kevin She has a very impressive background! She graduated from Harvard and works as a researcher. She is currently looking at medical schools. As an added bonus, we both have a shared tendency to use the word “ostensibly,” which I found to be a pretty neat and oddly specific commonality.
Hope I was excited to find out that Kevin is running the Boston Marathon this year! I ran last year and it was fun to reflect on that experience and the training process.
Kevin It would be great to do races with her in the future.
Hope The restaurant was amazing! I was intrigued by the Peruvian-Japanese fusion.
Kevin We ended up with tuna poke, fried calamari, and a fried shrimp on avo roll dish. We also ordered a fish-themed ice cream dessert that blew our socks off!
Hope Kevin had a lot of funny stories to share and was open to talking about serious things. I appreciated his honesty, and we ended up staying for almost three hours. I enjoyed our conversation but I wasn’t sure if we had romantic chemistry.
Kevin She was quite a catch, really sweet and easy to talk to. I asked if she wanted to grab a drink elsewhere, but she had plans. Thankfully, she offered a rain check and it seemed genuine.
Hope We walked to the T together.
Kevin In what feels like some sort of dramatic romance film scenario, I was taking the Orange Line, and her, the Red. We parted at the gate.
Hope I think if we do hang out again it will probably be as friends.
Kevin It looks like we’ll be getting drinks together next week!
