Your Move, Banksy
The Beyond Walls Mural Festival returns to Lynn, which gained 15 large-scale works of art during last year’s inaugural event. This year’s slate includes 18 artists from 13 countries painting new murals around the city as well as dozens of related programs, including mixed-media pop-ups. A New Voice
What do you get when religious extremism meets college romance? One of the hottest debut novels of the year. The Incendiaries, by R. O. Kwon, tells the story of a young couple drawn together and pushed apart by faith and violence. The free outdoor Shakespeare season continues after Richard III on Boston Common closes August 5. For something more lighthearted, check out As You Like It, starring Emerson College grad Margaret Clark as Rosalind, heroine of the madcap tale of love and deception. What’s Your Type?
Calling all typewriter enthusiasts! The QWERTY Festival, the first event of its kind in New England, showcases dozens of the antique machines, including the first commercially successful typewriter (from 1874) and a linotype once owned by the Globe. Five “fog sculptures” make up Fog x FLO: Fujiko Nakaya on the Emerald Necklace, in parks from the Back Bay Fens to Franklin Park. Nakaya is a Japanese sculptural fog artist; “FLO” is landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed the Emerald Necklace.
