A man accidentally shot himself in the leg yesterday in a parking lot at Gillette Stadium, according to Foxborough police and stadium officials. The 50-year-old man, who was not identified, was trying to empty the chamber of a licensed handgun when the gun went off around 3 p.m., according to a statement from Police Chief Edward O’Leary of Foxborough. The man was in his car with his wife, who was not injured, O’Leary said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition and was expected to be released last night. O’Leary said police secured the gun. Patriots spokesman Stacey James said that while guns are not allowed inside the stadium, there is no official rule against having a licensed gun in the parking lot. Foxborough police said that they could not confirm or deny whether there was alcohol involved.
