Registry assesses effects of data loss

The Registry of Motor Vehicles is working to identify hundreds of drivers whose transaction information was stolen Wednesday. A pair of masked men stole five duffle bags of records from a courier’s truck outside the Lawrence branch, authorities said. The documents included registration transactions, duplicate titles, crash reports, and citation payments that were conducted at the Wilmington branch March 30 and April 2, Registry spokeswoman Sara Lavoie said Friday. Between 500 and 600 customers were affected. The documents contained names, addresses, birthdates, and license numbers. The paperwork did not contain Social Security numbers or credit card information. The Registry will contact those affected by midweek. Concerned customers may contact the Registry at 617-351-4500 or at
