A Revere man will be arraigned Monday, accused of fatally stabbing an East Boston man Friday morning, authorities said.
Christian Santa, 20, was arrested Saturday at about 10 p.m., Boston police said. He is charged with murder in the death of 50-year-old John Barrientos.
Barrientos was found “suffering from multiple traumas including multiple stab wounds’’ near 220 Chelsea St. at about 6:55 a.m. Friday, police said in a statement. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Barrientos had been stabbed more than 80 times, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity, because the official was not authorized to comment.
Police previously said they believed the victim was wounded inside an apartment, then staggered into an alley between two houses and collapsed.
No further details were available, Boston police Officer James Kenneally said Sunday afternoon. Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk district attorney’s office, said more details will be released at Monday’s arraignment, in East Boston District Court.
On Friday, several neighbors said police had asked them whether they had heard a disturbance early that morning; the neighbors said no one had.
The violence surprised some nearby residents, who described the area as safe.
There have been 16 homicides reported in Boston this year, Kenneally said.
Half as many homicides were reported in the city at this time last year.
