Rhode Islanders will have a way to send holiday cheer to troops serving overseas. Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts and Major General Kevin McBride of the Rhode Island National Guard kicked off the annual Operation Holiday Cheer care-package drive on Monday. The campaign will send about 350 packages to service members from Rhode Island stationed overseas during the holidays. Residents and businesses who want to help can donate wish-list items ranging from cookies and coffee syrup to playing cards and DVDs. They may also make monetary donations to help cover the postage to send the packages overseas.
