FEMA to open three disaster centers

US Senator Jack Reed said the Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening three disaster recovery centers in Rhode Island to help people affected by Hurricane Sandy. He said on Thursday that the centers will be staffed by disaster relief officials, including representatives of FEMA. A South Kingstown center was scheduled to open Thursday and centers in Westerly and Middletown were to open Friday. The aim is to help residents of Newport and Washington counties. On Wednesday, FEMA approved Rhode Island’s request for individual assistance in those two counties. (AP)
