Fall River drunken driving crackdown nets 13

Nearly 300 motor vehicle citations were issued and 13 drivers were charged with operating under the influence on Route 24 and Interstate 195 last Friday and Saturday nights as extra patrols were deployed by State Police, authorities said. The two-day surge followed a similar increase in patrols on Friday and Saturday nights in August and September. State Police spokesman David Procopio said there were no fatalities, compared with eight fatalities across the state during Thanksgiving week last year. Troopers ticketed several speeding drivers, including one who was stopped on I-195 for allegedly driving 125 miles per hour. Also, a Brockton man who was seriously injured when he crashed after driving the wrong way on the Braga Bridge toward Fall River on Friday will be summonsed to court on an operating under the influence charge, State Police said.
