A bridge has been renamed to honor Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene. The Laurel Avenue Bridge in Coventry was formally rededicated Monday at an event attended by Governor Lincoln Chafee and US Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse. They were joined by members of the Rhode Island Historic Militia and eighth graders from Nathanael Greene Middle School in Providence. The bridge’s new name is the Major General Nathanael Greene Memorial Bridge. Greene’s Colonial homestead is not far from the bridge.
