A Vermont covered bridge that is being rebuilt following Tropical Storm Irene is expected to reopen soon. The bridge in Quechee was destroyed by the storm in August 2011. The Valley News reported that construction began in late summer and that officials originally hoped to have the bridge functional by now. But an abutment required more work than expected, which contributed to the increased construction time and increased costs. Selectman F.X. Finn of Hartford said the rebuilt bridge is on track to open by the end of the month. He said contractors agreed that Friday, Dec. 28, was probably the opening day.
