Newport OKs wind turbine rules

Homeowners in Newport with at least 10,000-square-foot lots outside historic districts have won City Council approval to install wind turbines. The Newport Daily News reported that the new rules apply to turbines that generate up to 10 kilowatts, one turbine per lot. Property owners with 40,000 square feet in a commercial district will be able to erect wind turbines that generate up to 100 kilowatts. It will require a special use permit from the Zoning Board of Review.
