Vacant city lots to be turned into urban farms

Some vacant lots in Providence will be turned into urban farms under a $100,000 initiative that aims to add green space to the city and improve access to locally grown produce. The city will work with the Southside Community Land Trust on the Lots of Hope program to turn unused city-owned land into small farm plots. The city will enter into low-cost leases with Southside, which will then sublease the plots to residents and community groups for farming. Residents will be able to get technical assistance and support from the land trust.
