Providence teacher charged with assaulting officers

Providence officials have placed a middle school teacher on administrative leave after she was charged with assaulting police officers and disorderly conduct at a North Kingstown restaurant over the weekend. Police said Gilbert-Stuart Middle School teacher Jane O’Connell went out with friends Saturday night to Seven Moons Restaurant. Police said that when an officer tried to help one of O’Connell’s friends who had fallen off a bar stool, O’Connell confronted the officer and became belligerent. Police said O’Connell fought with officers as they tried to handcuff her, yelled obscenities at them, and continued to struggle with police after being arrested.
