A woman was seriously injured when a tanker truck collided with the car she was driving in Worcester early Friday afternoon, a fire official said.

The tanker was rounding a corner shortly before 2 p.m. on West Boylston Street, near Bourne Street, when it collided with the small car, Deputy Fire Chief Geoffrey Gardell said. Firefighters extricated the woman from the car, and she was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center, Gardell said.

Police closed West Boylston Street after the accident. The tanker did not rupture, though some fuel from the car leaked onto the road, Gardell said.
