$438,000 raised for Newtown victims

Thousands of runners and well-wishers poured onto the streets of Hartford on Saturday for a 5-kilometer run that raised more than $438,100 for victims and others affected by the Dec. 14 killing of 26 children and adults in a Newtown elementary school. The official start of Saturday’s Sandy Hook Run for the Families was preceded by a moment of silence as a solitary bell tolled 26 times in tribute to those killed when a gunman slaughtered the victims and then committed suicide. Some 15,000 people were registered to run and thousands of others lined up along the route in Hartford.
