Conn. to break ground on new veterans memorial

State officials and military veterans gathered in Hartford to break ground on the new Connecticut State Veterans Memorial. The ceremony was held at 3 p.m. Monday at Minuteman Park near the state armory. Slated to attend were Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz, National Guard officials, and veterans from all five branches of the military. The memorial honored the more than 1.3 million Connecticut residents who served their country in the armed forces.
