Pennsylvania man accused of 1981 sex abuse at Cape Cod camp

A Pennsylvania man is charged with sexually assaulting underage youths at a Cape Cod camp decades ago. Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe said Richard P. Smith, 65, of Media, Pa., was arraigned Monday on charges including rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. O’Keefe said the four youths, ages 11 to 15, attended Camp Good News in Sandwich in 1981 when Smith was a counselor. Prosecutors began investigating allegations of abuse at the camp two years ago after Scott Brown, then a US senator, wrote in a memoir that he had been molested at a Christian summer camp on Cape Cod in the 1970s, which turned out to be Camp Good News.
