New England Baptist Hospital lays off 12

About a dozen employees in management positions at New England Baptist Hospital in Roxbury were laid off with severance last week as part of the hospital’s plan to improve care delivery, according to hospital spokeswoman Lisa Rand. “We’re currently taking steps to ensure that our financial future remains strong,” Rand said. She said the layoffs would not affect patient care. “Unfortunately, reducing the workforce is part of the change. It’s one of those things [where] nobody likes to make that decision.” Founded in 1893, the New England Baptist Hospital specializes in preventing, treating, and rehabilitating orthopedic conditions. In 2012, the Globe included the hospital on the annual Top Places to Work list.
