Man, 53, dies in Beacon Street fire

A 53-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning after fire engulfed a Salem home, according to the Salem Fire Department. The victim was found on the second floor of a three-story wood structure on Beacon Street, according to the Fire Department. There were no working fire alarms on the second floor where the fire broke out, according to fire officials who are investigating. The first-floor tenant escaped the fire and is being assisted by the Red Cross, said Cat Powers, director of communications at the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts. Firefighters from Danvers, Swampscott, Lynnfield, Nahant, and Wenham helped put out the fire at 3:30 a.m. The victim’s identity has not been released.
