Woman charged with trying to extort lawyer for breast enhancement surgery

A Roxbury woman who allegedly threatened to press charges against a lawyer who brushed her with his car unless he gave her $7,000 for breast enhancement surgery has been arraigned on extortion charges, prosecutors said.

A not guilty plea to one count of extortion by false claim was entered on behalf of 24-year-old Deborah Yi in South Boston District Court on Wednesday, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said in a statement.

The lawyer called State Police on Sunday to report he had bumped Yi with his car while turning from Seaport Lane onto Congress Street, the statement said.

He told police that he had stopped his car and exchanged contact information with Yi, who indicated that she was uninjured.

When State Police arrested Yi she allegedly admitted that she knew extortion was wrong, but said she thought she could make easy money, the statement said.

Yi was released on her own recognizance, ordered to have no contact with the lawyer, and to report to a probation officer once a month. She is scheduled to return to court on July 16.
