Mayor Angel Taveras of Providence donned a helmet and rode his bike Friday with members of his staff from his home to downtown as part of Bike to Work Day. The annual event, held across the country, is sponsored locally by the Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition. Hundreds participated in a Bike to Work celebration at Burnside Park. Taveras announced at the event that Providence will hold an expanded schedule of ‘‘Cyclovia’’ events this summer. Cyclovias are car-free events in which streets are closed off and residents come together to bike, walk, and participate in other activities.
