After another unsuccessful negotiation session for a union contract, registered nurses at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester will go on strike for one day, according to a statement from the hospital. On May 17, the medical center provided a proposal to the Massachusetts Nurses Association-University bargaining unit, which represents the nurses, reflecting a decreased economic package as a result of having to bring in replacement nurses. On Monday, the bargaining unit responded with their proposal that Eric Dickson, a spokesman for the medical center, described as “a significant step backward.” The strike is scheduled to take place from 6 a.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. the next day.
