Lincoln woman charged with taking money from AAU team

A 43-year-old Lincoln woman was arrested Wednesday and has been charged with misappropriating more than $20,000 paid by parents in fees to an AAU baseball team. Police launched an investigation after parents complained that the East Coast Rhinos team had folded once it collected their money. Police say they found Sandra Gaboury, 43, collected $34,092 in fees. They say that only about $9,000 appeared to have been properly spent and that much of the money was withdrawn from the team’s account as cash or went to gas stations, restaurants, liquor stores, a department store, and a home improvement store. Gaboury has been released on her own recognizance after being arraigned in District Court in Warwick. Attempts to reach her by telephone Thursday morning were unsuccessful.
