A 10-year-old Springfield girl drowned in the Chicopee River on Wednesday, according to Springfield police. The incident occurred when Kahdro Abdi was wading in the river with her 12-year old brother and other younger siblings, according to police Captain Cheryl Clapprood. Kahdro stepped into a part of the river where the bank drops off and the girl, who could not swim, went under the water, Clapprood said. It took police an hour to find her body in the murky water. Kahdro was pronounced dead at Bay State Medical Center.
