Harvard College names botany professor Donald Pfister as interim undergraduate dean

Harvard College named an interim dean of the college on Tuesday to replace Evelynn M. Hammonds, who resigned in May amid a firestorm over covert searches of instructors’ e-mails. Donald Pfister, a professor of systematic botany and dean of the Harvard Summer School, will be responsible for undergraduate life. Pfister has been a professor at Harvard since 1974, and he and his wife spent 18 years as masters of a residential house. Harvard will launch a search for a permanent dean in the fall.
