A 53-year-old West Springfield man was found dead at Antelope Island State Park in Utah on Saturday, the victim of an apparent drowning, according to reports from Salt Lake City’s Deseret News. The man, who had rented a kayak earlier that afternoon, was spotted by a fellow park visitor floating face-down about a half mile off shore, according to an official in Utah’s Davis County sheriff’s office. He said that employees from the kayak rental shop assisted in pulling the man from the water at about 3:40 p.m. and bystanders attempted CPR, but the man was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency officials. Although the case was being investigated as a probable drowning, officials were awaiting results from the Utah medical examiner’s office before giving an official cause of death. The man’s name was not released.
