Townshend Lake reopens to swimming

Townshend Lake, which was closed to swimmers after flooding from Tropical Storm Irene in 2011 filled it with silt, has reopened. Officials had planned to complete the dredging of silt, which made the water too shallow and unsafe for swimming, by June, but the rainy weather delayed work. The project has been completed, though officials said the recreation area in Townshend will close for the season on Sept. 1. (AP)
