Brockton police are investigating two shootings late Monday and early today in downtown Brockton that occurred within a two-hour span and less than a mile apart.
A 24-year-old man was shot in the torso at 11:38 p.m. Monday at 23 West Park St., and was transported to a Boston hospital, according to authorities.
Two hours later, at 134 Green St., a 27-year-old man was shot multiple times. He was also taken to a Boston hospital.
Police declined to release any further information.
The shootings come a week after two fatal attacks in the city that spurred an outcry from residents.
On the night of Aug. 20, Lee Harmon, a 74-year-old longtime resident of the city who often biked through his neighborhood, was slain on Clinton Street — apparently by someone wielding a hammer.
The next day, Jeffrey Cicerano, 44, was fatally stabbed inside a Bellevue Avenue apartment. Police arrested Alfred Giannini in connection with the homicide.
Nine homicides have been reported so far this year in the city, three more than the total for 2012.
