Police stopped 105 vehicles and cited 42 drivers for texting while driving in a four-hour period Thursday afternoon, authorities said. The stops were part of a coordinated operation that six West Bridgewater officers conducted on Route 106 between 2 and 6 p.m. Police said it was their fourth such operation of the year, with a total of 157 citations issued. Many motorists tried to excuse their behavior by saying they were using social media instead of texting, although such activities are also banned under the state’s safe driving law, police said.
