Bus monitor suspended after stranding

Officials in Providence said they have suspended a school bus monitor after a 5-year-old girl was dropped off with no one waiting for her after the first day of school and she roamed city streets for more than an hour. Antonia Dwyer told WJAR-TV that her daughter was supposed to be taken by a van to day care after attending Harry Kizirian Elementary School on Wednesday. Instead, she got on a bus and was dropped off alone on a busy thoroughfare. Dwyer said a random couple saw her daughter wandering and took care of her. The girl was not harmed. Providence School Superintendent Susan Lusi said what happened was inexcusable and the bus monitor was suspended pending an investigation.
