Outdoor events on hold over West Nile

The city of Haverhill is putting nighttime outdoor activities on hold for the time being due to concerns about West Nile virus, a statement from the city said. Mayor James J. Fiorentini’s office announced that two mosquitoes in the city tested positive for the disease in the North Avenue area. The state will spray for mosquitoes in the areas near where the virus was discovered beginning Tuesday night, the statement said. No human cases of West Nile have been reported in Haverhill, Fiorentini’s office said.
