A teenage driver hit a couple pushing their 1-year-old in a stroller Sunday afternoon in the South End, seriously injuring the two but not the child, said Boston police.
The child was taken to Tufts Medical Center for evaluation and was released to family members, said Boston police spokeswoman Nicole Grant.
The child’s parents, both in their 30s, were listed in serious condition Sunday night. The father was taken to Tufts with a head and leg injury, while the mother was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for head and neck trauma, Grant said. Police did not release the names of the victims or the 17-year-old female driver.

The family was near Columbus Avenue and Dartmouth Street around 3:15 p.m. Sunday when the teenage driver swerved to avoid a taxi and hit the couple, Grant said. She lost control of the SUV, hitting a pole at Lawrence and Dartmouth streets and the side of a brownstone, Grant said.
A man who was stopped while trying to make a left turn told police that he saw the car speeding from behind and then hit the family.
No one else was hurt in the crash. Grant said the 17-year-old has a junior operator driver’s license and would be cited for the crash.
An orange and gray stroller remained on the brick pavers behind yellow crime tape at the scene Sunday afternoon. A woman cried as she clung to another for support as they were interviewed by police.
Neighbors said they were shaken by the incident.
“This is very scary for us because we cross here every day,” said Ambika Garg, 27, who heard a loud noise then screaming from her third-floor apartment on Dartmouth Street.
This intersection, she said, can be problematic. Last year, she was hit while crossing the street.

Her injuries were minor, and she didn’t file a police report. But to know someone else was hit in that same spot was unnerving, she said.
