Northfield, Vt., educator named teacher of year

Vermont’s 2014 Teacher of the Year is an alternative program educator at Northfield Middle High School. Luke Foley of Warren, was named Tuesday by Vermont Education Secretary Armando Vilaseca and Stephan Morse, the chairman of the state Board of Education. Vilaseca said Foley exemplifies many of the practices educators are trying to incorporate into schools. Alternative programs provide flexible schedules, applied and hands-on learning, and internships. Foley will travel across the state and work with teachers. He also will be Vermont’s candidate for National Teacher of the Year.
