Maine State Police said a 16-year-old girl died after losing control of her car on a curve and striking a tree in Hiram. Speed was the cause of the crash that killed Alexia Valente of Hiram at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, State Police said. Two other teenagers in the car were taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life threatening. All three were students at Sacopee Valley High School in Hiram. Trooper Tom Welch said there was no indication that any of the teens were wearing their seat belts. He said the crash took place on River Road and that Valente lived on that road.
