Senate President Therese Murray will endorse state Representative Martin J. Walsh’s mayoral campaign on Friday, according to people briefed on her plans.

Murray and Walsh will appear together in the Seaport District, and hold an event to launch a phase of the campaign keyed on women’s issues, one of the people familiar with the plans said.

Formal backing from Murray would add to the growing roster of supporters Walsh counts among elected officials. Murray is a Plymouth Democrat, but frequently cites her upbringing in Dorchester and Mission Hill.
