The Coast Guard rescued two fishermen Friday night after they were forced to abandon ship 3 miles east of Rockport, according to Coast Guard spokeswoman Myeonghi Clett. Minutes after setting out to sea, the crew of the 65-foot fishing vessel Terra Nova notified the Coast Guard at 8:30 p.m. that there was a foot of water in the front cabin and they were returning to shore, said Clett. When the men abandoned ship, the Coast Guard dispatched search boats and a helicopter to locate them. One man was pulled from the water by helicopter and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The second man was rescued by the Rockport harbormaster and was taken to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester. The condition and names of the two men were not released.
