Walsh leads Connolly in UMass poll

A new poll of likely voters in Boston found that state representative Martin J. Walsh has opened a 7-point lead over City Councilor John R. Connolly in the Boston mayor’s race.

While the survey jibes with other recent polls in depicting Walsh with the momentum, none that has become public has given the Dorchester Democrat the lead, let alone a 47 percent to 40 percent advantage. The poll carries a 5.3 percent error margin for the full sample, and one of 5.9 percent among likely voters.
