Suspect in court in Maine egg farm shooting

A Connecticut man charged with manslaughter in a shooting death at a Turner egg farm has pleaded not guilty. Michael Warbin entered the plea Thursday in Androscoggin County Superior Court after being indicted earlier this month. The 44-year-old contract worker from Franklin, Conn., told investigators he was using a .22-caliber rifle to kill rodents when he shot Manuel Adame on Aug. 19. Warbin was hired to clear one of the buildings that was formerly owned by Jack DeCoster and is now under a long-term lease by Land O’Lakes subsidiary Moark. Prosecutors, who did not ask bail, have said they think the death was accidental, but someone can be charged with manslaughter if they act with ‘‘reckless criminal negligence.’’
