Clock in Vt. church fire needs repair work

Officials said the bell in the steeple of a Burlington church damaged by fire is still in good shape, but the 1878 clock in the tower needs some work to be restored. Experts said that brass parts softened in the heat of the fire last week at the College Street Congregational Church and that steel parts were warped. Cogs, gears, and shafts were disassembled. The Burlington Free Press reported that it could take about six months to rebuild the clock. Police have charged Aliaksandr Bychkou, 32, with setting fire to the steeple Oct. 23. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held on $25,000 bail.
